Act 2 - Dark & Light, visions

Quotes

Lennox "The night has been unruly. Where we lay,
Our chimnys were blown odown, and, as they say,
Lamentings heard i' heard th' air, strange screans of death,
And prophesying with accents terrible
Of dire combustion and confused events
New hatched to th'woeful time: the obscure bird
Clamored he livelong night. Some say, the earth
Was feverous and did shake."
**Foreshadowing of Duncan's death**

Act 2 - Scene 4, L.41
Old Man "God's benison go with you, and with those
That would make good of bad, and friends of foes!"
** The Old Man is blessing the people who are always optimistic, and can influence others to do the right thing. The dark here is represented by the bad and the foes, while the light is the good and the friends.**

Act II- Scene I, L 32-38
MacBeth "Is his a dagger which I see before me,
The handle towards my hand? Come let me clutch thee.
I have thee not, yet I see thee still.
Art though not, fatal vision, sensible
To feeings as to sight, or art though but
A dagger of the mind, a false creation''
**Vision of him killing Duncan**

Act II- Scene III, L.142
'Donalbain.'There's daggers in men's smiles...''
**Dark desires of men who want power**

Act II- Scene I- L.64
'' Macbeth. Hear it not, Duncan, for it is knell
That summons thee to heaven, or hell.''
** In here Macbeth is speaking of Duncan's futur. He states that the bell, is basicly the signal that means death. He adds that in Duncan's deat, he is no sure whether he will go to hell -A dark and gloomy place- or heaven -Full of light and joy-.

Act II- Scene 4- L.6-10
''Old Man.Threatens to bloody stage. By th' clock 'tis day
And yet dark night strangles the traveling lamp:
Is 't night's predominance, or the day's shame,
That darkness does the face of earth entomb,
When living light should kiss it?''
** In here, he compares very evidently the darkness of death and how the light can go over the darkness, or be overshadowed in life.**
